The Essentials Every Guest Room Should Have to Make Your Guest’s Stay Comfortable
Create a Welcoming Space That Feels Like a Home Away From Home
When guests stay in your home, whether it’s your in-laws for the holidays or a friend visiting for the weekend, you want them to feel welcomed, relaxed, and well taken care of. A well-organized, thoughtfully prepared guest room goes a long way in making their stay memorable (for the right reasons!).
Whether you have a dedicated guest bedroom or you’re converting a multi-purpose space, here are the must-have essentials every guest room should include to create a cozy, comfortable retreat for your visitors.
Fresh Bedding & Extra Blankets
Good quality sleep is super important so your guests wake up well rested and ready for the day. In order to make that happen, make sure you have clean, comfortable bedding with extra blankets to suit your guests’ needs.
A freshly made bed with clean sheets, pillows, and a duvet or comforter
At least two pillows per guest (a mix of firm and soft is ideal)
Extra throw blankets stored nearby where your guests can easily see and grab them as needed
Bedside Table with the Essentials
If space allows, a nightstand (could be as simple as a stool, chair, or ottoman) allows guests to have their essentials within reach while in bed. Items you can place on the nightstand include:
A small lamp for soft lighting so they can turn off the lights from bed
Tissues
A phone charging station or cable
A bottle of water or a carafe with a glass
A small bowl or tray for guests to put their jewelry so they know right where to find it in the morning
Bonus: A framed Wi-Fi password card adds a thoughtful touch and saves them from having to ask
Storage Space for Their Belongings
Guests need somewhere to unpack or at least set down their things. Offer one or more of the following:
A few empty drawers or a small dresser
Closet space with hangers
Luggage rack or bench (much more comfortable than the floor!)
Towels and Toiletries
It’s always best if towels and toiletries are placed in your guest’s space so they don’t have to ask for them. A stack of towels and a basket of toiletries in their room makes them feel pampered. Be sure to set out:
A stack of fresh towels and washcloths
Travel-sized toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothpaste
A hairdryer if they didn’t bring their own
Thoughtful Extras
Add a few personal touches to make them feel extra special:
A mirror (full-length is ideal)
Small vase with fresh flowers
A few books or magazines
Sound machine or earplugs
Clock
Snacks
Welcome note and/or small treats like chocolates
Creating a cozy guest room doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive—it’s all about the comfort, care, and small thoughtful details that show your guests you’re happy to have them.
